Youth Ministry

Elementary [Pre-Kinder – 5th Grade]

SUNDAY SESSION TIMES

11:30 am – 1:00 pm         [English]

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm           [Spanish]

Faith Formation for elementary-age children at the Church of the Holy Spirit strives to assist parents with children in Pre-K through 5th grade in professing and living the Catholic faith. We abide by National Directory for Catechesis and Archdiocese of San Antonio Guidelines. In Catechesis with children, we use a blended model of classroom instruction, family, and community faith-sharing opportunities. Parents and children are invited/expected to participate in all aspects while each of us is “Growing in Faith Through All We Do!”

Elementary faith formation classes and special events are to assist and support parents as the “primary educators in the faith and ‘the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children” (National Directory for Catechesis). “…all members make up the family, and each can make a unique contribution to creating the basic environment in which a sense of God’s loving presence is awakened and faith in Jesus Christ is confessed, encouraged, and lived” (National Directory for Catechesis). Next to home and family, the witness of the catechist is pivotal in every phase of the catechetical process. Therefore it is essential that parents, catechists, and the entire parish community intentionally journey together so that we may all “Help us from an inclusive parish community of shared and living faith…” (Church of the Holy Spirit; Vision Prayer).

  • Classroom opportunities:
    • Pre-Kinder & Kinder – Our Sunday Visitor’s Allelu! An early childhood program with innovations that make it easy to engage every child and build his/her faith!
    • 1st – 5th grade – Our Sunday Visitor’s Alive in Christ curriculum is intentional in its focus on the life, mission, and saving work of Jesus Christ. Which helps lay the foundation for a lifelong relationship with Jesus! Sacred Scripture from both the Old and New Testaments is presented in ways that encourage students to learn about the people and stories of the Bible and listen to the voice of God. Alive in Christ provides a comprehensive and systematic presentation of the Catholic faith. Key themes of Catholic teaching are repeated each year through a grade-level lens, building on the child’s knowledge of the faith at each developmental stage.
  • Community Faith Sharing:
    • This element of the curriculum involves family participation in seasonal, intergenerational, and parish-wide events as well as regular participation in weekly Sunday Mass.

HIGH SCHOOL [9th – 12th Grades]

SUNDAY SESSION TIME
4:00 PM Mass
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Our high school youth group is open to incoming freshmen up through the senior year. The primary purpose of this group is to connect teens, from varying schools and backgrounds, with other faithful Catholic teens. Whether it’s planning day retreats for the teens in the parish, cooking a meal together, learning more about Sacred Scripture, or having open discussions about controversial topics that challenge us, this group of young people forms friendships with one another that hold each other accountable and emphasize the importance of remaining in Sacramental Communion with the Lord.

Please call Hannah Reich in the Faith Formation Office (210) 341-1397 to register your child.  There will be no registrations allowed on the first day of class.
